Trying to break my buddy's '41 9N worse than it is: Trying to disconnect the front loader pump (driven by the crankshaft) so I can get the hood/grill off and get at the radiator (that's what needs work). I disconnected the pump from the loader frame, and can get the shaft that goes back thru to grill to flop around but can't pull it forward thru the grill. It feels just like a hand crank engages, but won't come out. Parts sequence from grill forward: shaft; allen setscrew in a rubberized spider/Ujoint; then the pump. What the heck now? I can't find a name on the pump or the loader. Thanks guys.

I have a few pix that may help you determine the style shaft you have email open, it sounds like you have the threaded shaft set up that screws into a 4 pin drive hub that fits into the crank pulley. Push the drive hub back in then turn the shaft to the right to loosen, it has left hand threads on the end and that makes it a self tighten set up cuzz the engine turns clock wise. On this set up it would be rightly Lucy, lefty tightly

If the loader is an old Dearborn, the shaft is screwed into the crank pulley spider with LEFT hand thread, & you can remove it with a pipe wrench. If it's a splined connection, see Hec's comment below.
Good Luck!!!

Under the duct tape and grease, found out it's a Dearborn 19-22 with a Vickers Vane Pump. I've got the pump and spider out of the way -- it's the shaft coming out through the grill I need to pull, since there's a fitting setscrewed onto it that's too big to fit thru the grill crank hole. When I look up from under the tractor, at the back end of this shaft, I see a widget with 3 of the 4 original pins that fit into the crank pulley. Undo the frozen setscrew?? or ??

Try putting a pipe wrench on it and rotate it in the oposite direction that it would normally spin. I bet you may have some buggered up splines on the end of the shaft and it is jammed up. I had one like that and it was bear to get off. After it was out and apparent I could see that all the spines in the hub were buggered and so was the shaft. Good luck.
