Well, it only took a week, but I finally got my ole 8N running, here is what was wrong..... .I ended up taking the whole distributor off and brought it to a local shop, where we found;
1) no gasket between the coil and distributor, 2) no spring holding the plate inside the distributor, 3) burnt points,
4) the special dished bolt head (on top of the distribuor) to catch the spring on the coil was replaced with a nut and bolt!

It was a wonder that my tractor ran at all before, he had no idea how it could run if the spring on the end of the coil didn't hit the bolt and nut.

The previous owner seems to have done his fair share of jimming rigging to keep it going! But, it is all better now and it runs real good.

Now I get to install the fully hydraulic loader that I got for x-mas and a new set of brakes and gaskets on one side. I'm sure I will be posting questions about that soon. Thanks to all for the information and suggestions!

You now know why I recommend PPL to center static timing. The Coil Pigtail contact is the "ONE" weakness of a front Mount. I always install the Coil "First" (before CAP) and make sure the pigtail is centered in the Screw head.

You can then move the timing to the predetermined point but you can see what it does to the connection

Its harder to then install the cap, with the coil installed, but with the rotor pointing down, so spring doesn't bind, push Cap in and UP into place.
