I have been recently trying to restore a 46 2N. I took the engine block to a machine shop to have it cleaned. Afterwards, the machine shop called me back to tell me the block had a 10" crack going from behind the water pump to half way back on the side opposite the valves. I'm thinking it would be cheaper to just change out the block. I have been looking lately at the 6 & 8 cyl conversion kits but haven't a clue where to locate one. I'm not so sure if one is even available for a 46 2n. I've only seen them so far on 8N's.

Simple and least costly will be to find a used block or complete motor...the same as what is in there...Ford did a good job when they engineered and designed that tractor in the first place,,why change it???? If the block is cracked that bad, you may want to take a close look at the radiator, the head and the water pump also....It sounds like someone saved themselves ten bucks by not using anti-freeze..

Any idea where I could get one of these kits?? Also, how do I go about locating an engine to go with it?? Do they come supplied with an engine??

An outfit was selling Chevy V-6 re-power kits on ebay a year or two ago, but I read somewhere they have disappeared.

Don't forget, to make a conversion functional, it must incorporate a governor.

Someone just recently posted the link below:

For an experienced shop, repairing the block by either welding or "stitching" is probably no big deal.

As far as engine conversions, if it fits an 8N, it should fit a 9N or a 2N, as the engines are nearly identical.
