Moving dirt with my 6' box blade this morning when the lower pin to the lift arm that goes into the trumpet broke. It is the one when you are setting on the tractor right side. How hard of a job is this going to be or is there a easy way. Just hoping for a easy and quick way due to I need to get this dirt work done befor spring. Larry in north east Texas

Ok thanks all I just was hoping there was a fast way to do this and I do have the I&T FO-4 manual. Im in the house warming up while the shop is heating. Going to repace everything on that side while Im there because of oil seal leaking. Something I have put off for wat to long. Larry

You have to pull off that side and take what is left out to fix it. I don't remember but you can take off one side and get to both of them but one side you can only get to one of them and I don't remember whcih one it is. Its not to bad a job if you rear tires aren't filled with fluid but if they are I have found it best to remove the tire then the trumpet or it will be to heavy to to the job safely. I did one on my 841 a couple years ago in less then 2 hours but I also have more the one tractor with front end loader which makes it a lot easier to do the job

Old--I believe you can get to both sides easy by going in left side after you remove the trumpet. A while back I asked a question about fixing leaks at the lower lift arms and someone mentioned that they went in the back after removing the PTO shaft and was able to reach the nut. I don't think my oversize paws would get in there with a wrench tho. I wondered (and asked, but got no response) how you could get the wrench on over the cotter key even if you were able to get in the PTO opening--did you ever here of that?---Tim

Not easy to do with the cotter pin still on but it can be done. You take a socket and an extention and you drive the socket on to the nut then take the nut off. But as I said its not easy.

Tex..... ..unfortunately, the lower lift pin is secured INSIDE the trumpet with a cotterkeyed nut that requires you to remove the axle trumpet to remove. Lets hope you didn't fracture the castiron trumpet. The 8N's rear lift pin is a tapered pin that is torqued to 150ft/lbs. (tip: swipe yer new paper trumpet gasket with warm water so it relaxes and fits over yer trumpet stud, check studs for tightness before re-installation 50ft/lbs)

There are many posts about remove and replace in the archives. Its about a 4-hr grunt because you haffta remove yer rear tire (heavy) and unless you have a cherry-picker engine hoist, you'll haffta remove the rearbrake assy. BIG AXLE NUT is torqued to an amazing gutt-bustin' 450ft/lbs iff'n you haffta remove it. (not necessary iff'n you remove entire trumpet assy)

Recommend you squander $27 (cheap) for your very own personal copy of the I&T FO-4 manual. Readily available from sponsors of this great N-Board, most agricultural emporiums; www.n-news.com also has great archive of implement manuals. Would you belive most Ford/New Holland dealers sell it? Even my local (byte my tongue) John Deere dealer parts counter sells it. Isn't that amazing?..... ..Dell

Unfortunately, it will neither be quick, nor will it be easy! Solution involves rear axle removal & installation of replacement tapered pin as the nut is on the inside of the trumpet.
