I rebuild my carb on my 9n and left the shot off open over night and some gas got in to my oil , please tell me what i dead wrong in the rebuilding proces I clean and blow the carb before install the new kit, I had the complete kit install .Any advice is worth millions, Thanks Russ

Even after soaking the carb in cleaner and blowing out the passages they may still be clogged. Yours may all be cleaned and your problem sounds unrelated. But it is a good idea to run a wire thru every passage just to be sure. You may be surprised at how tough it is to get crud out the small passages.

I spec I know every trick in the book to stop a leak’in carb but ‘bout the time you think you are a no’it all one will jump up and bite ya. The last 1 I did leaked just a tad. What I found out wuz that if I took a pencil and trimmed it down enuff to fit the hole in the seat I could lap the seat wif the pencil and like magic it stopped my leak. BTW it wuz a Ford 2 barrel truck carb but has the same needle and seat. I installed it and ran it long enuff to adjust then shut it down fer the night. Next mooring the shop smelled like gas and gas had leaked out onto the manifold. This truck has a behind the seat tank and full of fuel so would gravity feed out the fuel line at the carb.

Thx Hobo 4 your reply. I was wondering how i can lap the seat for the needle , now you answer.... nice idea , you think a filter is a god think for my old lady and watt kind you recommend , something clear so i can see the junk I may add..

No x-tra filters needed, only a nice clean fuel tank/lines and OEM filters. If you tank izz in bad condition then it aint worth the fight replace it or figger on werk'in on yer carb rite regular.

Dell ,I dead change the oil asap , I was lucky to see that mu oil pressure drop to almost 2 zero, check the oil and was like H2O and I my ad smelly , full of gas , The oil in there was new . What I don't understand is that before i had the rebuilt done nothing of this nature ever happened.
Dan I weal have a 2X4 job done on him LLLooollll!!! souNdguy : I don't know what kind of needle was in the rebuilding kit, i didnt know that is two kinds.

Razvy..... ...what Dan said..... ..and..... .you say you have gas in your oil? Guess what? Watered down oil and bearings don't do well. Do a 6-qt oil and filter change NOW ...or... do a $400 bearing change later. Your call..... ..Dell

Great advice from Dan.. The wood handle -smack trick works for me too.

Assuming your flaot isn't heavy/leaky, and it didn't hang ont he wall, and is set at least 'close' and a new needle / seat.. then it is as he said.

Are you using the new viton tip needle? I'm not fond of them.. but they are 'ok'..

You did nothing wrong - except not shutting the fuel off after use. Even on a fresh rebuild, these old carbs are not trustworthy to shut the fuel flow off completely. Get into a routine of shutting the gas off at the valve every time you walk away from it - like everyone here is used to.

One tip though - every rebuild I have done I had to take the wooden handle of a large screwdriver and smack the carb solidly right around the mating area to "seat" the new valve. I usually only have to do this once - the first time I turn the fuel on after a rebuild. On one stubborn carb - it took three times. Now I do it as a matter of course - the rebuild is not complete until I smack the side of the carb on re-install.

My dad would do the same thing to me when my mouth would not shut . It took four or five smacks with the wooden stick before I was smart enough to figure it out . Now when I see him pick up the wooden stick I shut up . He said its the best tool in the tool box. LOL - Ken
