Stalling 8N @ high power if full load...

Greets!

My 8N starts loosing power after about 5 minutes or so at high throttle if my brush hog is engaged as well. It will end up stalling out if the choke is NOT pulled 1/2 way out. If choke is ALL out - it will stall or if choke is IN it will stall. If I NEUTRAL and disengage the hog - it will idle fine. If I run with my choke 1/2 way out - I will get another few minutes then it will jump up/down in power - making mowing impossible - and will EVENTUALLY just stall out.

I have checked everything from the air filter to the oil to even cleaning out the little screen for the fuel line into the carb.

I THINK it is a carbarator problem - but I cant find my carb in any of the manuals I have! Mine has 1 "main" needle with a screwdriver head - and then another valve on the BOTTOM FRONT with a "stick" type top (like this --| ) that spins. If I turn the "stick" so it is all the way in - it wont even start... I usually spin the stick out 2 spins from being closed. I have tried adjusting this and the other screw all over with no luck.

I replaced the spark plugs a month or so ago.

Any ideas of where to look next or where to find info on my carb???

THANKS!!!!

Babs..... .sounds like a fuel flow problem to me.

To check fuel flow, disconnect the fuel line at the carb elbow, gas should flow NOT DRIBBLE like an ol'man.

You know of course, the the N-Carb has 3 filters, 1 in the carb elbow, 1 in the glass bulb under the tank, and 1 inside the gas tank that you have to remove the shut-off valve to inspect. Of course if'n you're "brave" blow on the fuel line to clear the tank filter.

All this advice assumes that your carb jets are not clogged up. Sometimes you can seat all your carb jets and unclog 'em, sometimes it don't. Count how many turns to seat 'em and then re-turn back out to where you were.

If'n you don't know where to set your carb jets, 2 turns out is a good ballpark to start from. Usually end up adjusting down to about 1 turn out. Do your adjusting 1/8 turn at a time.

Remember, you are smarter than your carb..... ..Dell (grin)

I had the same problems. I saw a big improvement when I replaced the leaky manifold.

Granted, lots of causes to your symptoms but airleaks are often overlooked.

Check it out, you might just need a gasket.
