ok guys I posted a few weeks ago bout an extra plug, I got a 49 8n frnt mount dist.. just got done the engine rebuild and ended up with a small plug like the ones at either end of the oil gally, which i checked and are thair and this one has red paint on it so i think it goes outside the engine sumwhere, so i hung the engine and put er all together thinking id find it eventually well it's not a plug for the oil filter canister its not a plug where the ptcock in the block goes it dont go on the bottom of the carb. again it's exactly like the plugs at either end of the oil gally(the little tube that runs from one end of the engine to da other next to the cam that delivers oil to all the moving parts.) well no that thats out the way, when I try to start it it has great spark but fuel pours out the front of the carb it has some suck to it when I cover the carb with my hand but im not startin spark is great but no fule seems to make it up to the cylenders please help me any in fo you need let me know and i will provide it thankyou!

RAG,

What is the diameter of the plug? Tissue paper thin? Sheetmetal? Cardboard?

As don b says, maybe the plug is from the intake manifold. If so, put in. that maybe part of your starting problem. Air will bypass the metering ssyetm and the mixture will be too lean. If you having fuel pouring out of the carb air horn then your float is either misadjusted ot it's stuck open. How's your timing? With a front mount I believe you can be off 180o. Also make sure that you have the correct firing order. Are your valves properly adjusted cold?

No way you can be off 180 deg with a front mount unless you break it. It will only fit the cam one way. Again you could mount it 180 deg off but when you tighten the two bolts you will crack the distributer housing. Hope you didn't? Ron

Rag...just a wild guess, the plug could have come from the manifold,if it was original.Original manifold had a simular plug for attaching a vaccum gage or even a milking machine if needed. don b

Iknow the plug y'all mean in the manifold but thats not it I replaced the original manifold like 3 or 4 months ago when i noticed that it had like 4 or five cracks in it and on a front mount distributer you can only get er in one way but thair is a bolt on the side you can advance or retard it a few degrees I think my no start problem may be a leakey gasket where the carb bolts to the manifold or like you said a stuck float I think it will have to come off either way
