Chain question

I have field chains on my 8n tractor. I use them primarily for traction while plowing snow, and sometimes in the woods pulling logs and/or trees that I cut. I usually don't spin, but there is the occassional tree that is a bear and ends up having me jerk it a few times to get it moving. Is this ok to do with chains on? I've had some people tell me that chains on an 8n will pull the rear end apart. I've had other tell me that the the engine will not have enough power to do that, so I have nothing to worry about. Both sides are pretty knowledgeable about tractors. Any ideas from you pros???? Thanks in advance for your comments!

When skidding, I generally hook short to the big end of the log and raise the drawbar just enough to get the big end off the ground - careful, a big one will have you steering with the brakes - if you do this and still have to jerk, your log's way too big!!!

Arron, I 've got 4 fords. I;ve had a broken tooth on the ring gear in my 9n for 15 years. I've broke rear axles, I've spun the centers in power adjust wheels. But I never tore up a rear end because I had chains on it or was jerking on something with chains on. I have beat the hell out of a fender and dam near broke my hand when a crossbar breaks in the chains. Grant it's probably not good to jerk that way. If you got a loader on your tractor raise the three point and pull agianst it. John
