Lug nuts, 8N

I purchased some turf tires for my 8N, without lug nuts. The local Ford implement wants $6 per lug nut; I need 16 of 'em. Anyone know where I can get them at a more reasonable cost? Used OK, of course. These are the ones machined on one end to have a neck, apparently so more threads will engage, inside the lug hole on the wheel. Thanks.

OK, I looked at the holes in the new wheel; they are too large to fit the standard lug nuts from the old wheel. I do in fact need the new, larger ones with the odd neck. The local dealer gave me this cost: $6.13, and this part number: C5NN1120D. Anyone know where I can find these, possibly cheaper, online? Used would be great too.... :-) Thanks.

Roy, go to a semi-truck dealer and get you some of those chrome acron nuts that will fit the 8N. Take one of the old ones with you to compare.
I have my 8N with those chrome ones. I think I paid about $.72 ea. They look very good also.

Some of the 8Ns that I have taken the lugs off were necked down like Roy describes . they look like any old lug nut but when you get them off they are different, the tapered part straightens out and is threaded all the way through....this makes the threads longer than a reg style like 3/8 inch or so...not necessary in my thinking to have this style..reg style should work fine

Thanks for the comments -- you're right about the shape of the nut -- tapered, then straightening out. I intend to go back to the dealer who sold me the tractor, Neal Heaton of Saline, MI (I don't know whether he's well known; all he sells are 8N's), and ask why he recommended the lug nuts with necks. *If* anyone has seen these for sale, I'd be curious to know how much they sell for...

What happened to the ones you took off?

Well, I still got 'em, but the point is, I was told the ones I took off (normal chamfer, which held the original rims with field tires to the hub) should not be used with the replacement rims (which have turf tires on em). It may be bunk. I've called the guy who sold me the tractor, and he can't remember what the heck I'm talking about, so I need to go see him Monday. I'll report my findings at that time. :-)

you're kidding, right? are they gold plated and diamond studded?

Don at www.just8ans.com lists p/n 8N1134, nut, 5/8 - 18, 1 1/16 hex for $0.60 ea. also known as p/n 33806-S34. this is the standard 8N rear wheel lug nut.

All wheel lug nuts and lug bolts that I know about; auto, truck, tractor are tappered on the wheel side to help center the wheel on the studs so the wheel is mounted centered round the axle so it doesn't bounce or wobble down the road..... ..Dell
