Razzie..... ..they NO LONGER make the "inductive-loop" ampmeter. All replacement ampmeters are 2-terminal ampmeters and need the ampmeter wire cut and spliced so the charging current goes THRU the 2-terminal ampmeter.

Just for your edification; the OEM "inductive-loop" ampmeter is only a 20% accurate meter. The 2-terminal ampmeter is just 10% accurate. Even the cheapest hardware voltmeter is 5% accurate. My professional grade digital meter is 0.1% accurate.

And don't worry, ampmeter don't care 6-or-12 volts, works the same. Center reading ampmeter don't care positive or negative ground, but you care. You're trained to interpert positive ampmeter reading as charging the battery.

Bottom line, don't get hung-up on tractor indicator meter accuracy. Iff'n it wiggles, its accurate enuff..... ..Dell

Length of the wire won't effect it.. It's magnetic field based, It's an inductive meter. I wouldn't go smaller than the oem gauge, since charge current goes thru that line.. and Max size is limited by the loop size... etc.
