Thanks Dan and Ken. My Fo-4 and operator's manuals say nothing re lube for upper or lower steering shaft bearings, only to fill the box; tho FO-4 lube chart has split arrows to pipe plug and center of steering column.
I've had my N since 1970. Steers about the same even with 90# front wheel weights--good for my use which is under 50 hours per year, including runs to charge and prevent clutch sticking. Pitman arms leak a bit but tamped-in graphite string helps. I check the box frequently; use a long-spout, curved at end, trigger-type oil can and shoot 90 wt. up to reach the lower shaft (or upper box) bearing. No steering column squeaks or noises to date. My inclination is not to worry about the steering lube. Am I wrong? Thanks. Angelo

You've got me stumped on this one..

If yer stering column shaft broke the stering wheel should pull right up and out all together.

I lost my top bearing, and my stering wheel would turn one way, but screw out the other way, and come out.

I don't know if the bottom gear is held on with a roll pin or not (I don't remember)

But ifn it is, that may be yer only problem.

A $0.50 roll pin.
