that's what I want it for... to keep the mower in place while I mow some pretty rough places in the pasture. The bracket appears to be stamped because all the edges are sharp. I can't get ANYTHING at my TSC. They only have (3) 6' shelves of tractor stuff. The rest of the store is mainly clothing, lawn mowers, & livestock feed. The manager had no idea what a check chain clevis was! He just said: "if we have it, it will be over there" & walked away! Amazing.

Just to be clear.. a check chain clevis would just be a chain clevis.. and they should be over by their bulk chain.. 5/16 should work fine to hold the chain to the tabs by the pto, if that's what you are refering to.

This chain bracket, however is a depth or limiter' chain.. etc.

Some use brackets on either side of the toplink, some use a single bracket.. i seen em both ways. I made one using 2 brackets.. another list member made one using 1 bracket that bolts on somewhere near the back of his seat spring, and then attaches rearward.. etc..

I am going to get a mower for my 8N, I heard about using stabilizer bars to prevent sideways movement, do these 'check chains' do the same thing.???..it looks like they do.....

yes and no. The check chains will keep the arms outta the tires.. but it will still let them swing a bit. The sway bars lock the mower in place in line with the tractor.. tha's really the best..
