Hi everyone, Was messing around with the sector mesh adjustment again. On right side of tractor, I removed the 4 bolts for the sector housing and adjusted in a clockwise motion according to the F0-4 manual. I can feel it get a little snug but then frees right up again. I am suspecting I will have to rebuild the steering box. But before I do, Is there anything I can do without rebuilding the steering box. I noticed the sector shaft comes outward a little just as it gets snug. I was hoping maybe I can replace a bushing or something without removing the box. Any ideas anyone?

Your sector housing is slightly off center. This way, when you rotate it it will move towards the front for half of the full rotation, then move away from the front the other half of the full rotation - then back again as you keep turning. You want it as tight as possible without binding. If you cannot get it tight enough to get the slop to a satisfactory level, it is because the bushings have worn to the point of needing to be replaced. It is not a fun job, but one that will bring you quite a bit of satisfaction for decades to come as you drive your tractor with tight steering and no front wheel wobble. I did mine on my 1948 8N, and I am DARN glad I spent the Saturday doing it right.

The sector housing hole is just a few thousands off center. When the bushing becomes worn past these few thousands it is not possible to really tighten the sector gears together until the worn bushing/s are replaced.

I wish I knew something that would help you with your older model 8N137642 steering sector.

Mine is the later model 8N236763

Maybe someone will be along that does.
