Could be the timing gear on the camshaft. I would just leave it alone. If it comes loose all it will do is stop running. It won't damage anything in the engine such as the valves etc as some of the later engines will do when the cam stops turning. That's another thing that is good about the N engine.

Do you know where your pocket watch is?????

An old guy went to the doctor, "Doc I can't hear a thing out of my right eat!" Looking in the ear he told the old man, "no wonder you've got a suppository in your ear!

"Now I know where my hearing aid is!" Zane

In the absence of a stethescope the best way to locate or isolate a noise is with a long screwdriverplaced on the engine at the location ye think the noise is coming fromand put ye ear on the screwdriver handle. Listen and move the screwdriver around until ye can hear the noise the loudest and this should be the approximate location of ye problem. A stethescope (less than $10.00 at Harbor Freight) is a cheap investment for diagnosis such as this. Amazing what ye can hear.

Yep, a piece of garden hose works pretty good too.

You passed your hearing test. I can't hear a tick, or see a tick, but if they bite I will jump.
