After following Jim's insurance fiasco, I called my insurance agent to ask about covering these tractors under a separate policy.

I got a quote for under $60/year for coverages identical to what can be purchase for a car. I gave a value for the tractor at $3000.

It would provide coverage for collision, comprehensive, theft, etc.

Has anyone else ever inquired about a policy separate from any other coverages you may already have? Thanks, Tim

I also have my two 9 tractors, plus 2 riding lawn tractors, boat, motor & trailer, 2 generators, snowmobile, heated deer blinds, shotguns, rifles and pistols and a large log buck pole all insurred at my camp using riders on my Auto Owners Insurance. I learned my lesson one time after a breakin cost me several guns at camp. No More.Coverage is cheap when added to a home owners policy. Ron

8N'r: I insure my 52 8N, 16 foot tandem axle trailer, box blade, bush hog, disc harrow, dirt scoop, etc. as an addendum to my State Farm homeowner's policy for less than $100 per year - 0 deductible. There was only a few dollars a year difference in the premium between 0 deductible, $100 deductible, and $250 deductible. GA Jim

insuring my tractor in reply to 8N'r--WI, 03-05-2007 11:10:56
It was almost funny to find this thread here. I had talked to my own insurance agent late last week about having a separate rider for my 8N, after having read about James Rader's misfortune with his tractor & shed. I sent the information about my tractor to her, including a picture, and received a call today about the insurance. It will cost me only $20 a year more to add the tractor to my homeowner's insurance, insured to a value of $4000 ('51 8N w/ Wagner loader & Sherman combo trans). The only catch is that it isn't covered if used off property or as a money making vehicle. That's fine with me, because I don't use it for that.
I will feel a lot better now.

Carl

My new insurance as well as my as of midnight tonight old insurance both are supposed to cover it under the homeowners policy with the rider that I added for outbuildings and such.

The difference in cost between the two companies was not much $12.45 per year cheaper for the new company.

Did you have to get a special "Group B" coverage so that they cover exact replacement of damaged items rather than just the amortized value of damaged or lost items?

I did not on my prior insurance, my new agent and I are building a Group B right now don't know what kind of cost it will be and the reality is cost will make a difference as to if I take out the group B or keep a rider on the policy...

My State Farm homeowners policy covers my tractors against loss (fire/theft/etc). This coverage is included under the "dwelling extension" rider which I purchased to cover the sheds and their content. No coverage for highway use but I don't take them on the highway.
