A couple of days I posted a message about an electrical problem, which turned out to be the
solenoid, purchased one which turned out to be wrong. Now I have replaced the wrong one, with the
correct one I hope.Today I put on the new one.
Now here is the problem, the new solenoid is marked BATT on one term, which I assume means the
+ side of the battery, there is another wire that
was on this term, which I have no idea where it
goes, then there is the small term again I assume
it goes to the start button, and the side of the
solenoid big term goes to the starter. When I hook all the wires like they come off the tractor tries to start with the ign sw,and also
get sparks.I know everyything is hooked up right.Someone had converted it to a 12V,with Neg
ground.I know I have to get a wiring harness and
rewire this mess. Also the org solenoid was 6V.is
this a problem.Could the solenoid be reverse?
Guys I need help.Thanks.

Arthur..... .would it surprize you to learn that solenoids don't care positive or negative ground? Solenoids don't care 6-volt or 12-volt?

BUT YOU CARE; 3-terminal (original); or 4-terminal. (hint) 3-terminal factory solenoids don't have a BATT terminal.

Tell us what you have, and remind us what your tractor is too..... respectfully, Dell

Arthur, here's my story. Some good info from Dell in there that helped me. Turns out that even though I put the wires/cables back on the new solenoid EXACTLY like they came off the old one (I was very careful about this) It wasn't right. It ended up that I had to reverse the battery cables on the new solenoid to make it work even though, as I mentioned before, I HAD PUT THEM ON THE NEW ONE EXACTLY HOW THEY CAME OFF THE OLD ONE. Once I did that, she fired up and ran. Don't know if this helps your situation or not, but I "feel your frustration" see link:

1.) How is the starting system set up... does it still use the OEM tranny-top neutral safety switch?

2.) How many terminals on the ignition switch AND does the ignition switch have to be "ON" for the starter to engage (previously when it WAS working)?

3.) Does the ignition switch have a "start" position and have you needed to turn the switch to that position to get it to crank?

4.) What is the make and part # of your new solenoid?
For info the new solenoid has two terms that go to the start button
Arthur, Bob has asked the obvious good questions! but the above Statement, by you, suggests you had 2 wires that connected to the 2 small terminals.

The OEM Solenoid only has ONE “Small” terminal and must only have ONE wire. The One wire comes from the start switch, which is a switched "Ground".

btw: The large BAT term does have 2 wires, the smaller wire goes to the ammeter and supplies Battery to the Ignition/lights etc

MAKE SURE Tractor is in Neutral:

You can test the OEM Solenoid, with only the Large Terminals connected (BAT to Bat, and other to Starter) use a jumper or screwdriver to short the small terminal to Frame/Ground. The starter should engage.

It sounds like someone made some modifications to your tractor, he was a Bad Boy

Good Luck,
