Not getting any spark

Hello,
I have a 1949 Ford 8n (front mount distributor).
It was given to me to fix-up. A 12 Volt conversion was installed but there did not appear to be any type of resistor added. We ( my dad and I) found that the coil was bad so we replaced it. But there is stil no spark from the plugs.
If any one has any suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

At the same time you replace the points and condenser go ahead and install Dell's trick resistor--use with 12V coil. do not use regular ballast resistor-Use Radio Shack #271-13-1-- 1 ohm wirewound resistors 10 watt ....2 come in a pack, Wire them side by side--parallel..

if you have fire at the coil, but no fire at the points, try stertching the little spring pig tail at bottom of coil, new ones are sometime a little short, and do not make contact with the nut on the distributor. RP

Could be the ignition switch. Try a jumper wire and bypass the switch. I had one go out on me recently and it took $5.00 and a trip to Auto Zone to get me back running again.

Old is right about the points being suspect. You can try cleaning them first. Check the cap and rotor as well. Replacing these would be a great start to getting things eliminated as problems and it will give you a great baseline to work from. Not an expensive fix.

You should also consider getting a service manual. Available here on this site.

Welcome to the board and good luck with the tractor.

You have volts to the coil so theres a good chance that its the points.

It most likely needs new points and condenser. If the points are bad or dirty it will not have spark
