I have started restoring an 1952 FORD 8n and have a problem where when the key is turned off the amp meter shows a discharge. If I disconnect the battery and then reconnect the battery the discharge is no longer shown. Can any one help! Thanks

Check to make sure you have the wiring connected correctly (Armature on generator to Armature on regulator, Field on generator to Field on regulator, Battery on regulator to ammeter). If everything is correct, then you have a faulty regulator (cutout sticking). Not all new parts are good out of the box.

It is a 6 volt with a genny with a new V.R. I have replaced all the wireing and all gages.

For S&G's Polarize the genny ( jumper bat to arm ) and see what happens... almost sounds like a cutout that is kicking open

Past that.. are you sure you have it wired correctly? When the key is off, there should be no current flowing thru that part of the circuit... so it must be something 'before' the key..e tc.. Or you have it wired wrong / non oem.

Sounds like you may have a wire hooked up wrong some place.

Need more info. Is it 6 volts or 12 volts?? Does it have a genny or alternator?? If it has a genny then most likely the V.R. is sticking on you. If an alternator then its probably wired wrong or bad
