I can't get the old 9n 39' front mount, 6 volt, positive ground to start. Used it to plow snow, let it sit for acouple of days and BAMMMM, would not start!!!!! But, I'm on a mission to get it going again, runs great when working....

I know you guys are tired of hearing this but, I have already checked the archives and did try a few thing, but without success.

I have replaced spark plugs, condeser, points (0.015"), rotor, cap, stretched "thingy" spring on bottom of coil, charged battery, cleaned connection on the positive battery cable that is grounded to frame, jumped the ignition switch , checked continuity across coil.

I checked the carb, choked it a few times and I am getting raw fuel out of the intake.

What else can I do? I will very much appreciate any opinions.

Thank You!

I'd try new plugs. Could not get my 1953 Ford to start a few weeks ago. New battery, new gas, checked all same kind of things you did. Old plugs looked ok. Spent $9 on 4 new plugs, started by just barely touching starter switch. I'll be keeping a new set of plugs on hand, pretty cheap insurance for problem starts in cold winter when you need to plow the driveway. Good luck. PS When Dell or Soundguy or any of the board regulars answer your questions, read carefully, these guys seem to know everything and seem to be right most of the time.

Let us know how it turns out.

Al..... ...you write..... ."I checked the carb, choked it a few times and I am getting raw fuel out of the intake"..... ...anytime you get raw fuel out the intake you have FLOODED yer sparkies with INVISABLE deposits that allow them lazy sparkies leak off'n without jumpin' the gap.

Replace yer contaminated sparkies with new DRY & CLEAN AutoLite 437 sparkies (gap = 0.025)

Then KEEP YER FINGERS OFF'N THAT CHOKE KNOB 'cuz you already know it works. (too good) Quick-pull is ALL choke you need while crankin'. Understand?

After yer engine has warmed up. You can "swap-out" one old dirty contaminated sparkie at a time for HOT-ENGINE combustion clean-up. And "save" yer cleaned & dried sparkies for the "next-time" you can't start. (and there will be a next time)

Iff'n yer really feelin' ambitious, you could check yer sparkies with a calibrated sparkie tester. Make one from enny ol'sparkie by bending the side-electrode out for full 3/16"-gap. Then clamp the metal shell to convenient metal grounding bracket and plug enny sparkie wire to the top of yer calibrated tester. Now crank yer engine with ignition ON and watch yer calibrated sparkie. Do the sparkies jump the gap with BLUE-SNOT authority? or are they wimpy yellowish-orangish excuses?..... ..Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

did you check for strong blue spark at the plugs? also pull the drain plug at bottom of carb to be sure you have a good constant flow of fuel. check for water in oil, and oil in water as you could have bad head gasket. also if its cold where its parked, put a tarp over it and a heater under it for a few hours.
