Reid..... .yep, yer worryin'bout 'nuttin'..... .heres the deal. The original 1939 N-Radiator was the un-pressurized "coffin-tank" and had a screw-in 2-finger lugged cap (39-43). (which is NOT interchangeable with the 4-psi cap) It also had a 4-blade pusher fan, to keep the operator cool; and actually had a 6-blade pusher "tropical-fan". Great ideas in theory. In actual practice, sucker fans were more efficient. The 4-psi radiator (p/n 8N-8005; 39-52) is listed as replacement for ALL N-Tractors. And is reported to be "excess-capacity" for engine size and HP level. But tractor radiators don't gitt the wind-speed advantage of yer highway cruzzin' BelchFire V-8. As for blowin'out yer cylinder head gasket by pressurizing the cooling system; (old wives tale?) it was probably bad ennyways causing engine to overheat. You can and should ALWAYS re-torque yer cylinder head studnuts (55ft/lbs, 39-50) ennyways on warm engine. New head gasket $20 (cheap). Ya wanna depressurize yer radiator system fer what ever reason, just don't use a radiator cap ...or... don't tighten past the notch on a pressure cap. Simple, eh? Remember, heated water expands, so all you need is enuff radiator water (50/50 anti-freeze recommended) to cover the core of the radiator as you look down innna neck. Otherwize yer radiator overflow tube will burp all the excess water out the tube until its just right level. It should be intuitively obvious, check radiator water level when COLD. Simple, eh? ..... ..Dell, the coolman
