I recently bought a dismantled 2n that I hoped to rebuild. But,the valve seats on one cylinder were too rusted to repair. It also had quite a bit of welding on the lift parts. The manifold was rusted through, etc., etc. With it came a couple of things I had never seen before. One was a battery cover that goes under the battery door. Another was a chain set up with an instruction plate that I think is used to lock out the lift lever when sway bars are used to keep from bending the bars. How common are these items? I am going to use them on another 2n that I am rebuilding to use around my place. Are they worth hanging on to??

The battery cover was used on 2N and maybe later 9N tractors and was used to prevent gas from getting on the battery when filling the gas tank. Most were removed and never reinstalled. The instruction plate should have a chain on both ends. One end of the chain attaches to a bolt on the adjustable anti-sway arm. The other chain should have an "L" shaped bracket on the end that was placed on the quadrant lever to lock it down, preventing the lift from being raised with the arms installed. These many times were removed or wore/tore off. The tags are still available new as reproductions.

Concerning your valve seats, a machine shop can install new seats, or if bad enough, cut out the seats and install oversized seats. Manifolds are readily available new for under $50. And of course, new lift arms and parts are still available.

Those 2 items are fairly rare. I'd hang on with white knuckles. Good luck with the rebuild. HTH
