...while working on getting a 49 8N running decent, changing fluids, etc. I happened to notice that 1 of the axle nuts was missing it's spring clip.

Not too big a deal, I thought, until closer inspection revealed there was no groove in the axle for the spring to fit into---

Does anyone know if this is a "rare" one of a kind axle(if it is, it's up for sale or trade to one of you collectors--LOL)?

Does anyone else have an 8N axle like this, or know if there is a "compatable" axle made by another non--Ford tractor company?

Oh--BTW--this 49 8N rides works just as nice with this axle as does my 51 8N with the "original axles"(including spring clip groove).

Thanks, Tim

Tim..... ..like ya say, ain't no biggie, no clippie no keeper groove ...BUT... loose nuts cause sloppy splined axle-hubs which go slopp-slopp sidewize and wear bearings and seals. tip: push-pull sidewize at top of ag-bar tire and watch yer axle-nut for movement.

HOWSOMEVERS; be certain that you keep yer 8N's BIG NUT tight. thatza BIG 450ft/lbs grunt on a 4ft-breaker bar.

Me? I'd squander $30 for the 2-piece squeeze'em clamp-type lock-nut. Works on buggered threads and no keeper groove axles..... ...Dell

Sounder--nice guess--but no, it has the big 2" axle nut that was standard on the 8N's---it has me stumped.--Tim
