One of the tire shops in the next town over had them. I got to thinking I HAD seen one before, then I just had to puzzle out where.

Almost anybody can order you one, but it was nice to find them in stock.

If 8 volts is band-aid then 12 volts is battle dressing for engine with problems. I can find 8 volt batteries in stock at Napa, Carquest and TSC. Adjusting the VR to charge a 8 volt battery is not that challenging. Also a battery charger will charge a 8 volt battery on the 6 volt setting

BULLSH!T, A 6 volt charger will only partially charge a 8V battery, just like the 6 volt genny that outputs 7 volts MAX. according to Ford specs. It don't matter what you do to the regulator, YOU'RE JUST FOOLING YOURSELF!!!

Sometimes when people buy an eight volt battery they just add to their other problems because it is old enough to have self-discharged and become sulfated. If it came as a wet battery, you might want to check the code on it and see when it was built.

Not to worry. The tire guy I bought it from is a friend. We gave it a test before he sold it to me and it checked out.

If it turns out the battery doesn't have the ''stuff'' anymore, he would gladly give me my money back. I'd rather have credit, though, which I will use up in short order as I have trouble spotting new mesquite in the pasture these days and usually see it just as it disappears under the front tires.

With all respect, folks, I only like to tackle one problem at a time. Let me figure out why this one won't run "as is;" I'll post a follow-up.

My 8N has the 8 v too. And the orig. V R still 6 v . My peterbilt has 3 12v in parallel making 12 v and the volt meter shows 14 v charge , so the 8N probably charges 8 v Im thinkin . Anyway I would like to put an alt 12v on the N and then I could hook up a power inverter in case of an emergency like two weeks ago when our power went out because of an ice storn . Would have been nice to have an N powered computer

Fix the 6 volt system, if you ABSOLUTELY HAVE to keep it original, or make the easy jump to a 12 volt setup, which is a bit more practical (can jumpstart other equipment with it...better lights...can run other 12 volt accessories).

Never understood the thinking behind putting in a 8 volt battery for a 6 volt generator system.

Why would anybody want one?

Ken..... ..8V-batterys are a BAND-AIDE for worn-out low-compression engine. Some shadetree mechanics feel a $50 8v-battery beats a $500 overhaul. Your choice..... .Dell, a 12-volt advocate for the right reasons

I had an 8V battery in my '55 600. 6V did not cut it when it was below zero. It was a low time tractor with perfect compression, and the starter checked out perfect. The hydraulic pump seemed to be the "drag", yet it worked perfectly too. And yes, all connections were bright and tight. I ran it this way for many years. And it sure is a lot easier to crank up a regulator a bit than to convert to 12V., which I have yet to have seen done in a professional manner.

Tom, The generator will only output 7 volts according to Ford specs. You care to explain how you "crank up a regulator" and change that. YOU ARE JUST FOOLING YOURSELF!!!!

Tom..... ..yer lucky, most shadetree mechanics don't know how to crank-up a 6-volt regulator so it semi-charges an 8-volt battery. Instead they go runnin'round with discharged 8-volt battery. Infact, most 6-volt regulators are UN-CRANKABLE for higher charge-volts.

My comments still stand, despite yer avowed experience to the contrary; 8-VOLTS is BAND-AIDE for worn-out hard-to-start engine..... ..respectfully, Dell
