I have a interesting problem that I hope happened to others so I can solve this. Last year I put on a new sediment bowl and everthing worked wonderful for the whole year, now the other day I took the sediment bowl off the tractor to clean it up, put it back on, snugged it up, and NO fuel was coming out! So, I loosened it up a little bit and some fuel was coming out. Why?

I tighten the bowl, NO gas flow. I loosen it up alittle bit, some fuel! I checked all screens no cloggs. What could be the problem? Why does the fuel stop when I tighten the sediment bowl.

P.S. I put a new gasket on when I cleaned the bowl out.

You have to let the glass bowl a little loose,so the bowl fills up,crack your valve open a little, until gas starts seeping thru top of bowl, thighten bowl and you should have no more problems.I do it every time with my 2N,Good Luck

Have you checked the strainer in the elbow that goes into your carb?

That proves you have no leaks in the fuel delivery system and that the needle is holding fast in the carburetor bowl. If the fuel does not go down in the line and into the carburetor then it won't go into the bowl. Magic!

I did tighten the bowl, and the tractor does run for 5-10 seconds, then it starves and dies. Is this normal? Or is there another problem?

Run it again, if it dies, loosen the gas cap, restart and see if it works. The vent in your tank may be plugged. It's on top of the tank and hard to unplug when ya do. Vented gas cap is the way to go. HTH

There is a "new and improved" needle that comes in almost all new rebuild kits. It has a Neoprene rubber tip on it. These tips can and do stick in the seat. Sometimes you can whack the side of the carburetor with a screwdriver handle and shake it loose. Sometimes you can't and have to disassemble the carburetor to free it. Remove the pipe plug from the bottom of the carburetor bowl so you can tell if and when the needle releases. The gas will begin to flow when the needle releases. I had rather have the old all metal style needle because of this problem with the rubber tipped ones. Which either one your carburetor has it always wise to turn the gas off when the tractor is not in use to prevent the carburetor overflowing into the crankcase and causing all sorts of problems.

Can I remove to neoprene rubber with something, like scotch bright? Is it just a coating or something? What do you think? I might not have a needle without the rubber for replacement.

No you can not remove the rubber tip or it will not work any more. Most rubber tipped needles also have a spring that hooks to the float so it will not stick in the seat as easy but it can still happen. You need to pull your carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady gas flow. If you don't one of your 3 filters could be clogged and if so then theres where your problem is. Or you could also have a sticking float or dirt in the needle seat area that is clogging up the fuel flow

Alkolano..... ..NO, you can NOT remove the neoprene rubber tip of the float valve. Once you lay yer eyeballs on it, you will understand.

Recommend you "twirl-polish" yer needle in the valve seat. It should have a "ring" around it.

Also, be certain yer float valve seat is HONKED-DOWN tight!!! Use a hollow-ground wide-blade screwdriver. tip; hollow-ground yer own cheap wide-blade screwdriver..... ..Dell

What you are seeing is normal.
Think about it. Your sediment bowl is full of air when you tighten it up. Your float valve in the carb is closed. You will not get any flow through the bowl til your carb float valve opens up and lets the gas flow through the sediment bowl and into the carb.

Tighten it up & start your tractor...You'll see it flow. It's working OK .
