I just replaced the head gasket on my 9N a month ago..an easy job..and like the others have stated, use the soft head gasket and not the metal plated one...use no gasket sealer etc...

Since the head is off, do a thorough job of cleaning everything..it won't take long a soft wire brush on a drill and some carb cleaner does a good job. The nuts on mine came off easily, but it would be a good idea to hit them with something like PB Blaster a couple of days ahead.

The only thing I found was, I had to check was the torque on the nuts. Once you have everything bolted down and torqued to 55lbs, heat the engine up and let it cool and then re-torque the nuts again, do it several times. The soft gasket does give quite a bit.... other than that an easy job.

Best of Luck,

DHM

NAPA head gasket: NAPA# NGA-1950

It will cost you about $25 or so (more than the ones you get on the internet), but are of the softer variety and is a very good head gasket.

Dan

You're gonna need Mr. Peabody and his WABAC Machine to visit a Ford Tractor Dealer. May be easier to go to NAPA.

Get the soft fibre one.. it is slightly more forgiving of minor irregularities inthe gasket surface.

Actually I have not had a problem wif the metal one. BTW I use sealer on either type. Lots of engines use a metal head gasket. the N izz more pron to the block surface b'n in rite bad condition. I have found that neither gasket will seal, but would more than likely go wif the soft one in that case. I would go wif the flow and go soft, me it don't matter.
