Got the address for the replacement gas cap from your posting below. Just wanted to thank you.

Now I know why Dad said always to let our old MT John Deere sit for a while before adding gas! I took him at his word, and flinch to this day whenever I see people gassing up with the motor running.

A. B;

I hope it was clear that the free gas cap offer is for IH products NOT Ford/Ford New Holland products. (afaik)

The offer is from Navistar the surviving corporate remnant of International Harvester; apparently to reduce liability from legacy products.

Soundguy: I take it from your handle that you"re in the sound re-enforcement business?

I used to work as an audio engineer, years ago. How long ago is indicated by the fact that one of the big public address systems I ran had a bank of 6L6s in push pull. Six pair if I remember correctly.

I wish I could get ahold of all those push-pull input and output transformers now!

Correct on both counts. The tractor in question is a Farmall Super C.

I am in negotiations with the Product Integrity Department of Navistar even as we speak. I was told my request has been forwarded to Legal.

Why Legal? I can't provide them with a serial number. Grandpa removed the ID plate and put it some place safe. We never found it, or the owner's manual, even when we moved Grandma out of the house in the 'nineties.

I am prepared to be flexible and pay for the part/shipping. I need the cap to protect my estate from liability should my heir/s decide to sell the tractor!

 A Big Boom in reply to A. Bohemian, 03-21-2007 08:16:29
When I was about 7, my Dad and I were working out in the field when we heard a huge boom and saw large plume of black smoke coming from the neighbor"s farm across the river valley.

We raced over, along with a lot of other neighbors. The neighbor had been filling his JD gasser, with engine running, from his large bulk tank. The fuel ignited and blew off the JD tank and the bulk tank (which is what we could see and hear a mile away). The tank was sitting about 100 yards away from the tractor.

It took the fire department a half hour to get out there. By then there wasn"t much recoverable from that JD. Our neighbor was lucky. He just had a few singed eyebrows. He"d been farming all his life (and still does to this day).

Every year on the first day of school. Myself and a bunch of friends aka "parents" celebrate by firing cannons in our field. The whole neighborhood knows this and haven't seen the cops yet. What a blast

Now that's pretty cool! Is there shot in those cannons ;-)
