Oh the agony of setback! Found a small crack in the pump base from the test port plug about 1" long. Do you think JBweld is worth a try here or should I just try and find a new/replacement base? I sure don't want a leak there to mess up the new paint. Thanks in advance!

If it is cracked there it can be fixed by Heliarching it. Any modern welding shop should be able to fix it.

JB Weld will not withstand 2000 pounds of hydraulic pressure.

Zane-Does it matter if it's cast iron or aluminum?

Unless you are using the test port for some remote hydraulic set-up, I would think that JB Weld would do the trick. I don't know the exact location of the termination of the crack, but if you drill a small hole right at the end of the crack you will stop it from cracking further. I would definately try to fix it.
