I removed my governor to investigate an oil leak, which looked to be due to four loose internal screws, but I also discovered that the "plate" which holds the four large balls in my governor has become deformed. The balls appear to have flattened out the ends of the channels where they sit. Too, the balls, all looking in perfect shape, have created a grove on the inside of the housing. In fact, the groove has worn into one or two of the internal screw shafts. Everything else looks good.

Should I replace the deformed plate and even the housing?

Greenie..... .it should be intuitively obvious that governor balls should be ROUND and it should be obvious NO GROOVES in the housing; and NO DEFORMED spinning wheel.

tip: short bolt in TOP hole or you will be replacing yer bakelite camshaft drive gear$$$

Minor rebuild kit $50, major kit $100, already rebuilt $300, your call..... ...Dell

You can get rebuild kits for them. I think there are 2 kinds for a minor or major rebuild. Look into it and see which you need.
Good luck
