OT...(kind of) Putting my tractors on ebay......

I have good running 9n and 961 that I am thinking of putting on Ebay. I have some questions and was wondering if any of you that have Ebay experience would care to share. My concerns are:

I only want to sell one. Can I pull the other out when one sells?

I have a price in mind and would not let them go any cheaper. Do I have to moniter Ebay to make sure it doesn"t sell too cheaply?

Just how safe is the money changing system?

I know about some of the scams and would not consider letting either tractor go until the check had cleared the bank for two weeks. Is this enough?

I would try to list all the shortcomings of these tractors, but what if the potential buyer finds something wrong that you hadn"t listed, or that you hadn"t even seen until it was pointed out to you. The reason I ask is because after owning the 961 for 5 years, this year I got under the tractor and to my surprise, I found that the tranny case had been welded. It doesn"t leak there as far as I can tell and it looks like a good professional weld.

Sorry for the long post and I know that most of these concerns are answered on Ebay, but a little on hand experience means more to me than Ebay"s sales pitch. Thanks...Ron

Listing you items on ebay goes like this.
You can set a reserve that unless met you are not obligated to sell. This adds a fee whether you sell or not. The listing fee is always due. You can set the opening bid near what you want but the cost to list your item is based on your opening bid. My experiece is people seldom bid on items that the opening bid is near what they are worth. People are much more likely to start low and come up. Once you sell your itme you will be charged a closing fee also.
You can end an item early before the auction closes but the you are still obilgated to pay the listing fee. In some cases ending an item early is considered bad.
You need an ebay account to sell (Free)
You can deal with cash, money order, or set up a Pay Pal account (free). I've never had a problem with Pay Pal except for a charge back for a disputed item that I still disagree with. Payments made through paypal are charged to the seller, another fee.
If you have not sold before your feedback will be 0 and may limit the number of people who will be willing to bid.
My advice is choose 1 to sell that allows you to price attractively to both you and potential buyers and sell it. You can search on completed transactions to see what similar items have sold for but requires an ebay account to do so.
If you have not sold on ebay before this may not be the item to start with. Check around and see if you know someone who can list it for you.

Try the classified and photo ads on this site, free. Top left of this page. I check 'em everyday, just about. I've made a couple of buys there. HTH

Try here Works better and is FREE!! Re:OT...(kind in reply to RoNofohio, 03-22-2007 10:14:00
Use this (Craigs List) pick a city that best fits your location.
Tractors that are good and reasonably priced usually sell for cash local sale in a few days. It is also free and easy to use. Your item will go to Google internet search in a couple days. I have bought and sold on Craigslist it works! Deal directly with buyer with NO crummy RESTRICTIONS that Epay has. Check classifications some cities have one for farm Items. Be sure to POST GOOD pictures it says it all, best not to post phone though you will get calls at all hours. Use Email then trade phones. Make your deals with confidence with no COST!

I just bought a JD disc from a Craigslist seller, I just happened to be the first caller (he posted his phone)
When I picked it up he told me he had more than 50 calls before he had a chance to close the ad. That was all in one day. He said he got calls from buyers 400 miles away. It is a great disc but I didnt think it that good! ;))

Thanks for the info. That sounds like good advice to open an account and sell something else just to get a decent feedback. I would never have thought of that....Ron

If you list that the item is for sale locally you can end early as long as its not in the last 24 hours . On a tractor which is something they would have to pick up , you can specify cash only . You would sell it "as is" to cover unnoticed problems , but most people dont spend big bucks on something that they have not operated ( unless its cheap or rare ) I don't think ebay is all that great for selling an N tractor , just my opinion - Ken(Ark)
