I have a Woods belly mower under my '51 8N. The mower has no identifying names or numbers (decals are gone, guards are missing). Here's what I know: It has a white deck with school-bus orange other parts. It uses a single long belt. It has three blades and a 5-foot cutting width. It has a three-groove center pulley. When viewed from the tractor seat, the blade spindles rotate counterclockwise (or clockwise if you were under the mower looking up). It seems to eject clippings from both left and right side. I assume it's a Model 59, but which one? There are lots (e.g., 59 CL, LB, HB, CF, C-2, CLF-4, L59, etc.). I'd like to know in case I ever need parts and also so I can order a correct manual for it. The mower is definitely a Woods (even says so on the belt) and is made to fit an N Ford (bolts on with no cobbling). The local dealer was of limited help -- said to bring it in and he'd look at it. Can any N belly-mower owners offer expert advice or even hints to help me? Thanks in advance.

I recently refurbished two Woods belly mowers. One is a L306 (6'mower) and an L59 (5'mower). It is my understanding the "L" stands for lefthand discharge. I have the L306 mounted under my 9N and the L59 mounted under a Farmall 100. I was able to order everything I needed from Woods including a complete decal set and an operators manual. There should be a plate bolted on the right hand edge of the mowers to direct the discharge out to the left hand side. But I run both of mine without the right hand plate - so it discharges out both sides. Woods is now a division of the Hesston Corporation, Oregon, Illinois 61061. You can contact their Tech Service Department for info and questions at 800 319 6637 (key 0 for the operator and ask for Tech Service)or e mail Joanne Wood at JoanneW@woodsonline.com She was very helpful for me. You won't be able to order direct from Woods - you will have to locate a dealer or other mower supplier who handles Woods parts or mowers. They will be able to tell you the nearest dealer or parts supplier. Hope this helps.
