cooling system questions

I replaced the head gasket on my '47 8N, put her all back together and cranked her up. I left the radiator cap off and expected to see coolant circulating but never did. The coolant got warm to the touch but never did get moving. The head became hot enough I couldn't leave my hand on it. I shut her down and tightened the head stud nuts again. This tractor does not have a thermostat. (I know it should). Does the water visibly circulate in an N? Can't remember. Maybe I'm just paranoid of the heat cause I just did the gasket!

Was the radiator filled with coolant just to the top of the core? You need expansion space for the coolant. Was the fan belt tight? What about the lower rad hose. It's not kinked or collapsed when your running is it?
You really should have a thermostat in your cooling system to keep the engine at the correct operating temperature. Your engine components will size up to the correct values and, as a consequence, wear will be minimized and fuel ecomomy maximized. This is doubly true for machines that see light usage and don't run at operating temperature long enough to cook of condensate and blowby residues in the oil causing sludge.

If circulating it will get hot in just a very few minutes - probably less than 5. Also you can disconnect at top of radiator and just see if it is.

If there is no thermostat, and the fan is turning, there should be coolant flowing.

If you filled it up to the brim, I'm not sure if you can see it or not, I don't fill em that full.

I didn't fill to the brim, but I did have more than just covering the core. Can you see it circulate in yours filled properly?

I think so, I can for sure see it circulating good if it is just below the top of inlet on the radiator.
