Not only do you guys know about tractors, but you seem to be prophets too! Last year alot of you told me that my first N wouldn't be my last. Well, yesterday I bought a second 8N, along with a 2 bottom plow, 4ft brush mower, and something called a trenching plow(???). The N is in great but not-running shape as it has been setting inside the barn for the last 23 years. It belonged to a friend of my family whose father was the original owner. He still has the original sales receipt. It's a sidemount, didn't see the serial # but I'm guessing 51 or 52. Tires have lots of tread and no dry rot. It has the original Ford script hood and fenders and all the original lights. It even has the fancy seat-spring-and-shock-absorber-set-up (not sure what this is called). All this for the amazing price of $400! Now the tricky part is concinving my wife that we actually do need 2 tractors. So far I'm making some headway with the one for the field and one for the lawn concept.

Wow.. 400$ would have been great for a serviceable 4' mower and those 2 plows.. just figure as the tractor being for free..

Pull the spark plugs and fill the holes with cheapy ATF tranny fluid.

Drain engine oil sump, and grab a cheap fram c3 filter. Refill with some cheap 30w oil ( cause you will be using this as a low hour flush ).
Block clutch down. Grab some new spark plugs and a set of points. Try to turn her over with a wrench.. if she is loose, or pops free easilly then go get a gallon or two of gas, and get ready to try to fire her up.

Might have to clean carb.. might not. run the engine over by hand to expell the oil out of the cyls thru the spark plug holes.. then bump the starter over a bit too. check for spark at this time.. use jumper wires where needed.

get you some gear oil and prime the oil pump, and be ready to start rolling the engine over as soon as you screw that big hex plug / oil pressure relief valve back in.

Simple justification:

"Honey I need it for spare parts - much cheaper than buying new ones from the dealer"
