9N Again,

I went back to your original post ... looks like you need to adjust your filler tube. You might want to check to make sure you have a correct filler tube cap.

This it what it should look like, with screen mesh etc:

I get water build-up in the tube even with a 160 degree t-stat. It"s a normal process of combustion.

If your crankcase oil is not milky-white looking, you are fine. Pull the dip-stick to check. You"ll know if your oil is bad.

to tighten ye oil filler tube, take it out and place the end thet goes into the engine on a piece of 2X4 or other piece of wood and tap that end of the tube just enuf to make it slighty oval shaped and try it in the hole. Keep doing this until ye get it snug enuf to suit ye needs. Just do light taps sos ye don't go too far and ye can't get it back in the hole.

I ran my 8n without the thermostat for a grand total of probably 10 engine hours while trouble shooting an overheating problem and an oil pressure problem when hot. I drained it 2 weeks ago and you cant beleive how much condensation was in the oil. The radiator is still full so it dod not come from there plus there is no sign of antifreeze. Part of that time was over the winter and it never really heated up but I'm a believer especially since most of these tractors are not getting run 8-10 hours a day like they used to.

9Ner..... ...change yer engine oil. AGAIN!!! Sometimes it takes a double-flush to de-water yer oilpan gunk. Change when HOT. Oil and filter of yer choice. Simple, eh?

Loose oil-fill'em tube? Take a 2x4 as a "cushion" and POUND the tube down tighter into yer engine block hole with a BFH. Simple, eh?

I'm assuming you have "re-torqued" yer cylinder studnuts (55ft/lbs) on warm engine to eleminate the vague possibility of leaky headgasket. Don't have a torque wrench? el-cheapo's $20, good clickers $50. Rent-one for $10. Simple, eh?..... .Dell

9Ner..... ..I have NO OPINION on this "rare and illusive" 180F-stat. I looked at a picture of one and am unable to scale my eyeballs to make it fit into the radiator hose. I definitely recommend using the 160F-stat. Remember Hakeems Razor..... ..Dell
