Since we've had some snow fall now and there's all this talk about plowing, dragging, scraping snow it's brought to mind a question about modifying the drag blade on my 8N to make moving snow a little more automatic especially on dirt and gravel drives etc. Has anyone seen or made skid shoes to install on the bottom corners of a drag blade to keep the blade 1/2" or so off the surface to help an amature avoid gouging into the drive surface. TNX in advance for info or ideas. 8^)

Norm,

Just added a set two weeks ago, and used them to scrae off the 5" of snow we had last week. Worked like a champ. The set I used came from Northern Tool and Equipment and were originally for a Myers front blade truck-type plow. Kinda pricey at $19/ea., but they're made of cast and they pivot with the bumps and dips. We just put on $300 worth of new crushed limestone, so I guess it's a small price to pay.

I have done the very thing you describe. Using 2 pieces of pipe that slip inside each other, then weld the inner one to the skid plate. Then drill a couple of holes to vary the height. Weld it all on the blade and you're plowing snow and NOT the rock on the drive. Hope this helps. Happy 8ning PJ

CT Farm & Country has some in their catalog that fit a brand of blade they sell. I think it's a good idea. Shouldn't be too hard to fabricate something like this with the right tools.

I put the CT skid shoes on my blade several years ago. Whatever make , they are definitely the answer.

Bottom of my skid shoes were worn through so i cut the bottom off of 2 old oxygen tanks and welded them on over the bottom of my old shoes. Put a couple of circles of hard tack on the bottom and they work really well.
