Installed this alternator on stationary engine. It was necessary to rotate the rectifier housing to accomodate the wiring. Ran wire (10ga) from primary terminal direct to the starter solenoid battery post. The (red) harness wire is connected to the primarty terminal on the alternator also. The #2 spade terminal on the alternator has 12v present. The white wire is connected to the switched side of the ignition sw. with a 12v pilot lite in line. The pilot lite displays with ignition sw. ON or OFF. If I run the engine the Alt is charging per multi- meter across the battery. This the second alternator from NAPA who was good enough to exchange the first one. I guess my question is: Why is the pilot lite on continously, and it seems there should not be 12v on the #2 Alt terminal, (white wire side)until it is energized from the ignition switch. Appreciate any and all comments.

Sam..... ..as you found out, the (blue birdshutt) bolts allow the 2-housings to "rotate" for eaziest installation.

The 3-wire 12-volt conversion should start charging at about 600rpms. This is indicated by the idiot-lite going OFF.

The #2-terminal should be short-wired to the BIG STUD alternator OUTPUT.

The #1-terminal should have either a 1-way diode or #194-idiot lite connected to the ignition ON side of the ignition/start switch.

Sounds like you gott'chur alternator 2-wire plug-in BACKASSWARDS. (see linked picture)..... .Dell

Thanks Dell; That is the way I have it wired. Today took an old alternator off another tractor that I converted years ago and installed it on this engine. This one works like it's supposed to. I will bring both of these NAPA units back. I still need another 10SI unit. We used to have a automotive electric shop locally but the guy got sick and closed his business. No place here locally to even get these NAPA units tested.
