I have to get a new battery for my early 49 8N.
It starts easily and runs great.
I'm thinking it takes a group 24 battery.
Is this correct? What size battery (CCA) would you recommend.

Thanks.

Pooh..... ...use either size 22 or size 35.

Would you believe that the N-Ford MPC only lists the 6-volt battery as 13-plates? NO VOLTS; NO SIZE? (it is size 1A)..... ..Dell

That's what I needed. Group 22 or Group 35. Don't know where I got Group 24 from.

Going to get one today.

Decision will based more on price than CCA.

Pooh:

CCA is kind of like money and horse power: Some's good and more's better. I usually try to find the highest CCA battery that will fit in the battery box.

Be careful that you do not buy a top post battery that is too tall. It can become dangerous if the non gronded terminal is too close to the bottom of the gas tank.

Years ago, before restoring my 8N, I was mowing with it. It had no battery holder and the battery was tied in with clothesline rope. While making a sharp turn I hit a bump. The old clothesline rope broke, and the battery shifted. When It did the negative terminal (6V, +ground) shorted against the bottom of the nearly full gas tank. Fortunately, I was able to jump off and dislodge it before it burned through the tank. Over half of the lead battery terminal melted away.
