Hello everyone, First time on here. I've looked at this site for a couple years now, mostly looking at the pictures. Since, I now live on a 200 acre farm, it was time to get me a tractor. about a month and a half ago, I bought at the time a '40 9N only to find out it is a '46 2N. Dont matter to me, the tractor is in real nice shape, came with a 6' blade, $1650.00. Problem is it was painted all red years ago. That will change next winter. I like to get them running A1 first, and I'll work it this year to make sure the engine is ok. The guy I bought it from was having coil problems. I put it in the shop, took off the hood, found no resistor, old wiring. Found a schematic on here, took all the wiring out, I rewired it per schematic, new plug wires, battery cables, battery, resistor (this is 6 volt) While I'm at it, had fuel tank cleaned, and lined, bought new shut off valve, sediment bowl combo (by the way, the new ones suck), I made new oil lines out of brake lines, and changed all the fluids. So now came the time to put the hood on and crank er up. She started right away, but was weak. Rechecked point gap, plugs, 3&4 were wet, but showed spark. Well maybe I had 2 backwards. I checked, no, 1,2,4,3 CCW just like I read many, many times on here. Checked timing. Checked my 04 manual. Said the hell with it for the night , had a few beers, I'll read more and figure it out in the morning. Next morning I get on here researching, and find Bobs diagram on here showing plugs from radiator 1,2,3,4. So I'm thinking, wait a minute, someone on here isnt right. Most say it is 1,2,4,3, so what the hell is going on? Then It Hit Me! As I said Duh, Hey dumb arse. The firing order is 1,2,4,3. The plugs are still 1,2,3,4 from the radiator back. So I went out and changed 3 & 4 on the distribitor, fired er up, and she ran like a raped ape. So if alot of people on here are thinking like I did, no wonder so many are getting it backwards. So any way, I would like to thank all of you very experienced people on here for sharing your tips and tricks on these "Ns". I read on here every day.

2N---glad to here you got your tractor running right---it appears you do your homework and a lot of reading before you jump in and start thowing new parts on your tractor trying to find a fix. That's good!!!

You are absolutely right about Bob's Diagram----it is 100% correct and one of the great sources of info on this site---when you take the time to really look at all of it.

What I have found on this site, especially when researching the archives, are many pieces of "incorrect" info that I am sure were simply oversites, memory lapses, hurried responses, etc.

Like you, I try to read all of the posts on this great site and before posting a question to the board, research a few years back looking for the answer.

That is when I usually find the discrepancies in the answers. Unfortunately, I dont believe there is a way to remove some of the old incorrect info, and I think that is ok. I always find info I can use when looking at the archives.

No matter how many times someone asks the same old questions, there is always someone ready to answer it, and I always continue to read em' because there always is additional info someone ads that has helped me many times---good luck with your farm and tractor----Tim

BTW---would you happen to know what the little cotter pin is that is danglin' underneath my tractor??----- ----- ----- -----

From what I read, I believe it is a breather hole, and the cotter key is there to keep it open
