Well, I was gonna wait until I could find a used one at a farm auction, but I need to move some heavy stuff by this weekend. I need a boom pole quick, so I guess I'll be buying a new one. So far, I know I can get one at TSC or another farm & fleet called Rural King. They just don't look all that well made to me. I'd hate to pay good money for junk and would actually rather have an older used one that is heavy duty. Any other options besides these places that anyone knows of that doesn't price their products like they are made of solid gold? I'd have to be able to get it by saturday here in central Indiana.

I have a tsc boom pole that I used to pick up a top freezer refrigerator that went bad. Picked it up and drove off to the woods with it, no problem.

I should remember to take pictures, but we have all been there, working straight thru a project, I sent 2 tractors to auction day before yetsterday, one ran and the other had a front wheel hub off , I lifted the non runner up with my tn55 using a boom pole cradling the front of the hood between the chain hooked to each corner of the front axle,, and backed it right up the gooseneck trailer, to the front , the runner went behind it.. I dont think it was a real old boom pole, and it didnt break or bend, you will be surprised what you can do with a boom pole it will be a implement you will use a lot, I have another tractor to send like the last one I will try to get a pic. good luck, I dont think you can go wrong with the boom poles on the market, if you absolutely had to, you could have a buddy or yourself weld a few more gussets on at the bends, but I dont think you would need them.

,tractors,motors .heavy tires,transmissions,,you will be amazed,pat

I have one that was made from a wrecker book. It was narrowed down and has a top link connection added. There's a pully on the end to run a cable through and it extends about 6 feet. Just for grins I put it on my Kubota B1700. With the loader on and the boom extended I can pull down on the boom with one hand and pick the front of the tractor off the ground! Not much use unless I put it on my brother-in-laws International. I'll get some pics.

I have a lot in common with jspencer, Anymore (as I get older), I like the lighter weight attachments. Much easier to hook up and unhook.

Years ago I made my own because I didn't like the one I found for sale any place. I built it heavy enough that on an 8N you could pick up the front of the tractor and the pole wouldn't bend any. I have used it on my 841 that has a loader I it will pick up the front of any car I have hooked it to. I have since set it up so I can also hook it to the front end loader and lift things up about 20 foot in the air which helps when I'm working on my new building.

King Kutter at TSC.... in reply to Indiana Jones, 04-05-2007 16:30:43
In todays paper they had the King Kutter boom pole at TSC for $89.36. If you buy one, you will use it more than you think. I've loaded my 6' brush hog & 5' box blade on the trailer with it. Lots of uses for a boom pole.

Poot, I went to TSC this morning and looked at them. There were about half a dozen of the $89.36 poles outside, but one of them looked like a last year (or 2 years ago) leftover with some flaking paint and surface rust. I told the guy if he'd discount it that I might buy that one. He gave me 15% off, so I bought it. I saw a larger one at Rural King earlier this morning for $159.00 and it was HEAVY. I'll most likely get a used heavy duty one later on at an auction.

Thanks everyone for the input. Now I gotta put it to work...

One more thing.... in reply to Poot, 04-05-2007 19:12:51
TSC has a "30 day No Hassle Return Policy". Get one, try it out, & if you don't like it, take it back.. & it doesn't cost ya a dime! I'll bet you'll keep it though!

I was originally going to build one but then
I happened to go in to Fleet Farm a couple of years ago and the same KK boom pole was on sale for $62.95 so I bought it.
For that kind of money you can hardly buy the steel and pins.
I agree with Poot. Get one and you'll be surprised at how much you use it.

you could prob. rent one for 20 or 30 bucks, then when one comes along that you like, you can jump on it. RP

RP - that's an option I hadn't considered yet. Might do just that. I'd have to check on the fees. Thanks.

How heavy is the stuff you will be moving and with what tractor? I have one of these.... Link I think it is rated for 1,000# which is more than I can lift with my 2N without being airborne..I paid $107.00 for it new at a local tractor/implement dealer..For really heavy stuff and a bigger tractor get the heavier one.

Tom, I will be using it on my TO 30 Ferguson right now, since it's heavier than the 9N and has the front wheel weights. I estimate the heaviest weight to be lifted at between 500-800 lbs.

Just depends on what you want to spend..5-800# is not a problem for this lighter pole especially on the loop that is about a foot from the end..If it wasn't but 40-$50 more I'd go for the heavier one but I think the price will jump to about $259 or somewhere in that range..

I think the price is right on the TSC boom poles. If you have a welder you can beef it up. I dont have one but plan on getting one. If you get it there let us know what you think.

Will do Sean. I looked at them at TSC a few months ago, but may go back and take a closer look. My cherry picker's rating is graduated less as you move out to the end. I don't know if a boom pole would be like that since the base (fulcrum?) weight is the weight of the tractor instead of just support legs. In other words, if it's rated at 1000#, is that the lift capacity rating at the end of the pole or closer in?

I have one from TSC and have used it for 20 years with no problems.

You will appreciate the lightness when you install or remove it.
