The “new-test” forum has recently had new life breathed into it. Many have given it a thumbs-up!

It looks like Case enthusiasts adapt the easiest. third party image

Check it out.

Some things I'd like to see in this forum:
1. Let us sign in when we first log on, then we can reply as much as we want without having to enter our name and email address every single time.

2. On most boards, when someone replies to a thread, it automatically goes to the top of the first page so people know that there has been a current entry. With this board, threads get bumped further and further down and you have to click through several pages to see if there has been any new interest in a post. And yes, I know I can click email notification - and I do most of the time for my own posts, but who wants your email box full of notices to every thread you might find interesting.

3. In any thread, the latest reply goes to the top (right under the original post). So, the replies often don't make any sense. You have to go to the bottom and read up to get a sense of flow.

Ill have to go along with Kenster. I do like the newer versions of public forums. Like the old threads getting bumped up. I like Kims idea to sounds like the best of both worlds. third party image

I don't like that new forum. It is harder on the eyes;it has more confusing clutter. I like this old forum: easy to read & navigate, easy to scan who is posting. Boo on the creepy new forum!

The reason I use this forum is that it is THE easiest to use and to read - anywhere. IT AIN'T BROKE, SO DON'T FIX IT! PLEASE ! The new form is harder to read and harder to find what you want. Change for the sake of change makes no sense. KIM - PLEASE LEAVE THIS AS IT IS!

You posted "harder to find what you want" (on the NEW Forum".

WELL... try to find a specific post with the "clunky" search engine HERE vs. on a Board of the new style.

That's about my biggest gripe here... the "SEARCH" function simply sucks.

An example would be Stumpalump's reply to Kim. Disregarding the text that sometimes makes it obvious, unless you go back out to the first screen, you don't know if he's replying to Kim or to Salt and Light.

Dan, Maybe I"m not fully understanding your point, so take this worth a grain of salt ... but if you open the entire thread by clicking on the original poster"s link, then you will see who the reply is to in small light text just to the left on the message header.

Colin

PS: I"m rather partial to the old format myself. I hate upgrades! :-)

I sorta like the new format.

One problem I have with this current format is that, unless you go back to the home page, you can't tell who's replying to who. It just sticks the replies in but you can't see the outline of the conversations unless you back up. I wish every post had a link to the replies to THAT SPECIFIC post right on the screen.

The way this one works, it's like an open forum that might have several discussions at once; although here they're all posted under the original thread, it's hard to distinguish who's replying to who. (who? whom? I never did get those figgered out...)

Hope that makes sense.

Change for changes sake is not good...I viewed the proposed format...well, I look at another website that uses that format, it is not easily read and it becomes more difficult to just scan the screen and see what you want to read.

The one we have now is "user friendly" just like the contributors.

Just FYI, that is not "the new forum format". It is an old test forum from over a year ago that we set up when we were having many problems with the YT server. We left it up on a temporary basis.

I don't want people to think that the forum format is changing... We've tried that a few times and an overwhelming majority of people want to keep things just how they are.

In the future we would like to be able to offer people a choice of "interfaces", where you can choose to use our regular forum software or use a more modern interface. The same posts will be seen by both.

I just wanted to clear that up.

Kim , thats the ticket! Offer a choice. This old style rules. The alternative foruem is like a lot of others and have to say that I can blow thru the topics here and spew my crap I lot easier and faster than on theirs. I have no idea who you are but you have added to my quality of life. Thank you for this entire site!

To change your screen text size, press ctrl + (control plus) until it's the size you want. To make it smaller press ctrl - .

In other words, hold down the "Ctrl" key and hit the plus key to change it.

I know the only thing that is constant (when it comes to computers anyway) is change, but if this change is coming I have to say that I don't like it either.
