here's the picture of the "mysterious donut". It's on the 24" governor link rod. As you can see in the pic, it's app 5/16" thick & 1/2" in diameter. Any idea what it's for?

Hokie---here is the website to a company that sells them Foot Feed Kits---it appears that there is a complete linkage hooked directly to the long governor arm---never saw one of them critters other than in a picture either---Tim

Looks to me like a stop collar for a Dowden Foot Feed.

I agree with you & TOH that it looks like a stop collar, but all the stop collars I've seen have a set screw. Maybe this is just one of those things in life ya ain't sposta unnerstand.. unnerstand? Thanx for the input.

Poot--thanks for posting the pic----no idea what that could have been used for---

The rod runs close to the hot manifold---maybe somebody ran a wire for something through the donut to keep it from burning on the manifold---

Maybe somebody else has seen this setup before---

We should start a "strange and unusual attachment/fix" forum to post and save some of these little treasures that we find??

Yesterday, I replaced rear hubs on a 49 8N---on one side the axle was "shimmed" with thin metal sheets to make the old "wallowed out" hub useable for a bit longer (that I had heard about before).

What was real wierd, the frugal owner had welded or brazed pieces of metal onto the axle splines and then ground them out/down to fit the worn out hub. A new one costs about $55. This had to take a lot of time, as this axle was scribe fit to the old hub.

I was able to file out the unwanted metal and after a few hours of working on it had removed all welding/brazing down to the original axle, and the new hub on---go figure---Tim

Tim, that is not hard to figure, most of the old farmers using these tractors had the time to work on it but not the money to throw at new parts fer every little problem. Most people now days don't understand this. They had time but very little money.

Can't tell much from that itty-bitty pic but my first reaction was "stop collar" of some sort.

Better for my peeps but still got no real idea. You say it's not adjustable? How's it "attached".
That Dowden foot feed idea made a lot of sense but I've never seen one in the wild.. TOH
