FO-4 is in Error in reply to john hunt , 04-07-2007 08:33:34
If everyone will open their FO-4 Manual to pg. 58 and look at Fig.F086that there is an error on that drawing, it shows the distributor shaft turns clockwise by the arrows. Ye maay want to make a note on that drawing of the error as I have on mine.

Ross--I just looked at my manual on P. 58 and Fig.FO83 does have arrows showing the shaft rotating CW. Remember, you are seeing the engine side of the Distributor in this picture.

If you visualize this from the "other" side of the Distributor, the Rotation will be CCW.

I believe Fig. FO83 is correct as it stands.

Tim

John;

You are confused.

The firing order for ALL 9N 2N and 8N's is 1-2-4-3.

And; no service manual that is correct for this "app" is going to tell you any different.

Of course; if you are confused and look down at the distributor cap and incorrectly ASSUME the distributor rotates CW; magically the wires will be arranged 1-3-4-2.

Of course; looking at the distributor rotation WRONG doesn't make it RIGHT!!!!

OR do you REALLY have a 1953 and up NAA???

I wonder how many people will see this tread in the archives in the future and be confused by your insistance that a "N" "fires" 1-3-4-2!!!!!

Post back and let us know what the REAL story is!

Bob, sort of funny how something so simple can mess up a person so badly. I've seen more then one time where all the person needed to do was pull the cap off and then turn the engine over but if they don't do that they just guess as to which way the rotor turns and that messes thing up bad. Had that problem when I first got my WC Speed Patrol and the guy had been working on engines all his life but still go 2 plug wires on it wrong.

Its to bad that I didn't see your post yesterday because I said to switch the #2 and #3 wires and yep you know now that would have fixed your problem. Me I always try switch wired before I start replaceing part because it saves $$$$$$$$$$$$ and will not hurt any thing but may help a lot as you now know

John..... ...we're only as good a guesser as you are the describer. You have just described the firing order of the the OVERHEAD VALVE Red Tiger NAA Jubilee sidemount distributor, firing order is 1,3,4,2 CW. (ClockWise)

The FLATHEAD 8N 5-nipple sidemount distributor firing order is 1,2,4,3, CCW (thats Counter-ClockWise for you digital watchers).

And interestingly enuff, 1,2,4,3 CCW is the same as 1,3,4,2 CW. You doubt?

And even more amazing, the FLATHEAD engine is so different from the sheetmetal valve covered OVERHEAD VALVE Red Tiger NAA Jubilee engine. You can't tell the difference?

Yep, these old 4-cyl tractor engines will run on just 2-cyls, little ruff and not much power. ..... ..respectfully, Dell

Dell, I just looked at my NAA tractor, my original, printed in 1952, Model NAA owner's manual and my copy of the FO-19 NAA shop manual. 1,2,4,3 is the firing order.

John..... ..you have a problem understanding the DIFFERENCE between CounterClockWise (CCW) and ClockWise (CW)???? 1,2,4,3 CCW is NOT the same as 1,2,4,3 CW. Think about it. The NAA Red Tiger OHV engine distributor rotates CW and firing order is 1,2,4,3 CW ...but the FLATHEAD distributors all rotate CCW and the firing order is 1,2,4,3 CCW understand the DIFFERENCE??? ..... ...respectfully, Dell who knows the difference

The firing order for either distributor style is the SAME--- 1-2-4-3. Both turn CCW.
