Can I replace a main bearing by pulling the pan without removing the engine?

Yep but you can't check the crank out to make sure its still good. Any time a bearing rod or main goes bad you stand about a 90% chance that it also hurt the crank shaft and if it did you will just be throwing money away by tring to fix it that way

Yes. If all you are trying to do is raise your oil pressure, it is probably safe to drop your pan, drop the main caps, read the part numbers on them (to see what size they are) and replace them with the same size. Just KEEP TRACK of the main caps and replace them in THE EXACT SAME POSITION AS REMOVED. You probably don't even have to remove the conn-rod caps if you don't want to.
