I use this 8N mostly every day this is a hard working tractor. A week ago I was spraying weeds around the pond and was running great. Got done with that job and park the tractor in the shed, turned off key and gas. Next day it wont start, so I got it in the shop and found no spark. Changed the coil out and have spark some times, put new points and condenser in and same thing so I got mad and replaced the distributor with a new one with points, condenser, new wires, and new plugs. Point gaped at 15 and plugs gaped at 28 and now have great spark all the time. still don't start. Then checked the gas flow, good gas flow, so then I took the carburetor off anyway and cleaned it and ran a wire through every hole I could find and blowed out with 120 lbs of air, still wont start. Got good spark good gas flow and hot battery. This is a 12v with a 12v coil front mont distributor, all bran new. I did pull the governor to look at timing gear and it has the cast timing gear and looks good. Can some one point out what I'm missing.Im out of tricks. Thanks Larry

I did replace the plugs with Autolite 437s, and tryed gaping them to 0.025. now gaped at 0.28 and no change and yes I have jumper across the key switch. even ran a wire from the batt to the top if the coil. Like I said I am getting good spark and fule. Larry

Tex..... ..ya threw alotta parts at yer tractor (and thats ok) that you probably didn't need to. When a tractor suddenly won't start, its always electrical. And generally its yer weaksister ignition switch ($10, cheap) and NEVER yer carb.

Now yer frustrated 'cuz it still won't start. FIRST thing to do is ALWAYS change yer sparkies. Ya done FLOODED yer sparkies with INVISABLE deposits of no-lead gasoline. AutoLite AL-437's are highly recommended. Always check the gap (0.025) right outta the box.

Don't throw yer flooded sparkies away, just dry/clean them one-atta-time in HOT running engine and SAVE them for the NEXT time you can't start yer engine. (and there will be a next time)..... .Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Oh yeah, did I tell you to replace yer weaksister ignition switch? 'cuz its gonna crap on you again.

Ditto to what Gary said. I'd also suggest replacing those plugs. Get Autolite 437s, and gap them to 0.025. See if that helps.

PS: Keep that other distributor. They don't really "break", at least not in an electrical sense, and they are very rebuildable. It's just a housing with parts installed into it.

N.T.; Take a short wire with clips on each end, and jumper across the key switch. If that worked, get a new key switch. Post back to let everyone know if your still having problems.
