Could someone go to the "Help Identify" section under "Robert from Georgia" and tell me what this is. I think it is a resistor. It gets hot to the feel. It is located on the wire after the ignition switch and before the coil. (Front Mount Distributor) Thanks.

Resistors are supposed to get hot.

If the distributor still has the original six volt coil you should adjust the resistor to read about 3 volts at the top of the coil with the ignition points closed. Don't leave the ignition switch on for any length of time at any time to prevent damage to the coil and points. They don't like to be left with current on constantly.

Yessir, that is a resistor. Possibly adjustable, looks like one we used to use on heater fan motors.
