Ok I know this not about tractors but I do haul my 2N on the lowboy, there that makes it kosher. I got a K H controler under the dash {was there when I bought the truck}. It's a F150 & I been towing a 4 horse slant & my lowboy trailer alot lately. Both heavy trailers. Well was looking at the brake controler today & do have juice to the rear of the truck but there is a push pull switch between the controler & the trailer hook-up. Why the switch. Also does anybody know of a good site to get info on these controlers? I been pulling trailers for years without brakes but now that I got a smaller truck trailer brakes would be nice. Had to hit the brakes this morning with a heavy load & truck brakes set up good but trailer pushed me & I gained speed. At this age I don't need to many more rushes like that. Thanks in advance & sorry for the long post. Rusty

I tow with a 1/2 ton and a 1 ton depending upon the load on my 18' dovetail car hauler - double axle, single brakes. Both are stock '66 Fords with disc brakes - and I have the electric trailer brake controllers mounted in both under the dash.

I don't have the controller set up to run off the brake pedal. I just use the slider switch when I need some extra stopping power. No problems backing up and has worked fine towing over the Cumberland Plateau.

Works for me,
Doug

Rusty..... ..you write..... .."there is a push pull switch between the controler & the trailer hook-up. Why the switch?"..... ..best guess thats to "disconnect" the electric brakes for when backing into parking slot. You tend to ride yer brakes alott and makes backing-in difficult. I get out an manually disconnect my electric brakes when I haffta do a close-order back-in.

But you SCARE me, towing HEAVY trailers with 1/2T pickem-ups. I think yer OVERLOADING yer lite-weight 1/2T. Iff'n yer owners manual don't scare you with allowable tow weight, (doorjam sticker GCAW) maybe yer insurance agent will. You wreck'em, cops gitt NASTY..... ..respectfully, Dell who tows with 3/4T Dodge Diesel and electric brakes on ALL trailer axles

No idea why there would be a switch.... but go on-line and search "Kelsey Hayes Brakes" & you'll be reading a while...

Or plug in "Electric Trailer Brakes"... lotza stuff out there.

I don't know much but if i remember correct that k h break lever in the cab of your truck should move when you step on the break and you can use the lever to manually apply the trailer break, you should be able to turn that little knob to adjust the break pressure tighten it a few turns and the trailer shudn't pushya, at least thats how mine wurked from wut i remember it was 15 yrs ago and you may have a different model thair was also an adjustment under the hood i think it looked like 2 springs parallel to one another with a piece clamping the 2 together with a wing nut you could lossen and slide along those springs to adjust the break not much but hope it helps
