I have a 2n and now find myself rubber necking at every implement dealer and farm yard as I drive around the countryside.

I found a Golden Jublie. The metal is in good shape tires are cracked but serviceble. It runs and looks like someone has gone through it and put some new stuff on it like exhaust, carb and other odds and ends. The paint job is horrible, right colors bad application. It has a funny lookin rube goldberg seat on it. Nothing leaking that I could see.

The guy wants $3650 for it. I talked to him a month ago. I stoped by today and he has not sold the tractor.

Gotta have some info from you folks. These are stupid and novice type questions.

Is there a difference between a golden Jublie and a jublie?

What is the horse power we are talking about.

Is the price out of wack?

Does this old beauty have position control. Unlike my Zane-Thang-equiped 2N.

Love the 2N but now I want more Iron to play with. A man can not have too many tractors only too little storage space.

Thanks for all the input in the past. I know you all will steer me in the right direction this time.

Andy,
Contrary to most folks here, I'm not so sure that price is all that bad. I paid as much for my 8n. I read about all those folks that get them for much less, but they don't live around here apparently. As I recall, you are in the Winton area right across the lake from our old place. What they should go for in that country, I don't know but the way I look at things like this is, if it's worth that much to you, that's a good price. Ultimately, the right price is if you would rather have that tractor than a $3600 grouse gun, or fishin' boat, or whatever else you might spend that money on. My 8n is easily worth that much to me, to I don't feel bad that I paid more than most. Besides, I'd be wheel barrowing otherwise.

I won a grouse gun at the RGS banquit this spring. It is not a $3600 gun but it is nice enough that I do not think I will hunt with it.

The price seems abit high. I have a Jubilee and an 8N. The Jub is a real pleasure to both look at and operate. It has better hydraulics (you don't have to have the PTO engaged to operate the lift), alot more power and, in my opinion, looks even better. My wife and kids like the 8N better. The things to look out for on the Jub include the hydraulic pump. If you have the original vane stye pump, they are virtually impossible to rebuild now since nobody makes the rebuild kits. This can be visually determined by looking at the front of the pump on the right side of the tractor. If it has a knob on the front of the pump to adjust the flow, it is the vane pump. The piston stype pump works better and many people sell the rebuild kits. I paid $1,700 for mine, but it needed a new pump ($300), it didn't run, the metal was banged up, but everything else was there. I have about $2,200 into it and it looks and runs like new. I think I got a good deal. They sell for around $3,200 to $3,500 around here in PA. Good luck.

I agree about not having to much iron, just not having enough space to put them in. I have restored an 8n and now working on a Fordson Major Diesel. And currently building another shed to put yet another in.

Andy if you are looking to buy a jubilee you will want to make sure that it is a jubilee. The safest way is by the serial number. Do a search for the VINTAGE FORD TRACTOR RESOURCE and you will get a lot of information on the jubilee. Notable items common to the jubilee are the grill and left running board which has a tool box built in both are rare and very pricy. the golden jubilee hood emblem can be purchased new but a good original is nice. Another item is the air cleaner assy which was jubilee/naa only. My naa 88852 sports the original grill, toolbox, air cleaner assy. a sherman combination trans.and (caution here) a golden jubilee hood emblem.

Buck, I did not realize that the tool box was rare. I have a 54 NAA original grill, grill screen(w/ extra holes punched through and bolted to grill), and the tool box. The box lid is welded shut. I pried it open enough to look in with a flash light and the box is full of mud. It looks like the hinge assembly is intact so I will have to cut the weld to get it open. My son is convinced I'm going to find a complete set of tools autograghed by Henry in there. If by 'air cleaner assembly' you mean the funnel shaped assembly with glass jar attached, I have that too.

By the way Andy, I paid $3500 four months ago in CA. Paint is intact but ugly (blue belly and awful bronze sheet metal), engine was rebuilt a few years ago and runs great. I love this machine and feel lucky to have stumbled upon an NAA as my very first tractor.

By the time I'm done, will it be worth what I have in it? I doubt it but that not really the point to me.

Thanks for the good tips. The hood emblem looks to be origional equip. Pretty sun faded. I suppose that one could get a new emblem and pruposely fade it out. Good tip on the tool box. I do not recall seeing it but that does not mean it was not there. I do recall a strange looking air intake.

Thanks, Andy

Hey Andy, I think Mike answered most of your questions purty good.I think they are rated at 31or 32 h.p. Yes they have posistion control, the price seems a little high to me, surely the seller left room to negotiate. If you can get him down between 2500-3000 it would be about average out west.Does it have a sherman or aux. transmission?

The 1953 Golden Jubilee is sometimes refered to as the super N .I sure like mine, the Jubilee is a good addition to any tractor collection.

I just saw a plain old 4 speed trans. I did not see any extra levers or know that would suggest a dual trans.

Thanks for input.

Andy MN,

The NAA model was made in 1953 and 1954. Those made in 1953 are refered to as the Golden Jubilee model, or as the Jubilee (interchangeable).

Jubilee engine is 134 cu in, 2N is 120 cu in. Not sure of the exact horsepower differences.

Price varies with condition and location. Sounds like a good starting (asking) price.

Tractor has both position and draft control.

Differences you didn't ask about:
Left foot operates the clutch, right foot operates both right and left brakes (can be simultaneously)
Jubilees are the first Ford tractor to have live hydraulics. That means you can operate the rear 3 pt with the engine clutch depressed.
Some later Fords also have live PTO, but not the Jubilees (except for a rare few with a dealer installed option).

I bought my Jubilee last fall, before I knew alot about old Ford tractors. Dumb luck and a fed up seller got me a Jubilee with a trip bucket loader, box scraper and 8' back blade for $1,950. I had to do some work on the hydraulic pump and replace front wheel bearings this spring, but it was much easier with the help from this board.
HTH,
Mike NAA36663
