Guys..... ..I'm in the market for a new front bumper. I don't care about "originality", per se, but its gotta be hell'fer'stout 'cuz I'm MODIFYING it ennyways. I've seen $250 OEM re-pops; $100 aftermarkets; $50 3-bars. Looking for at least 1/2" thick arms that connect to the frontaxle. Enny recommendations? Somebody gott "calipers"? My local Ford dealer doesn't have one in stock so I'm flyin' blind. Claims his is OEM and will order for me; yeah, right. Freight to the great northwet is a killer on Don B's & Dennis C's re-pop. Suggestions?..... ...Dell, the bumperless

1/2" ont eh bar that connects to the axles and makes the big 'rung'/

3/8" on the upright support bars that hold the 'rungs'

1/4" on the 'rungs'

These are the tractor supply units.

I bought an original one from the local tractor salvage yard for $50, which included removing it from the salvage tractor. They even tossed in a Ford plow wrench that I found in the toolbox of the wreck.

The bumper that Hobo has pictured looks as near original as any I've ever seen. If it is true to the original, it wouldn't need any modification for strength. Here is a picture of my original bumper with a homemade tow bar. We welded 3/4" pins on all our Ns, 600s and 800s bumpers and used these fabricated tow bars to pull the tractors all over town. Never had a bumper failure. The tow bars are made out of the old original soild bar center links and are just sprung over the welded pins and secured with a small lynch pin.

Dell,

My 2n has a Tractor supply re-pop on it ( think it cost 75$ ).. I'll throw calipers on it tonight and give you some dimensions on the steel.

( I got a tractor supply 5 miles down the road from work.. out at the interstate. if I eat at the diner there at the interstate i'll stop over at TSC at lunch and measure up one for ya. )

Here is a home made one that was on this tractor when I bought it. It is stout, but the end pipe will bend if you hit a tree.

Dell, I've had several, and my favorite is one that I ordered from the TEMPCO catalog. Though I have not measured it, it is heavy. I'd guess about 65-75 lbs. I like it on my 8N as it adds weight to the front end.

It is of the common, post N series aftermarket design built with angle iron vertical bars surrounded with about 1/4" flat iron with a 4 or 5" horizontal channel at about axle height. It is reminiscent of a vintage Jeep grill. It also has the 4 bolt axle bracket.

Here is an orginal but pretty steep price at 219.
Shoot John Smith an e-mail see if maybe he has a used one I bought a three bar from him a while back for 25 bucks. If you want a strong one get the type that runs up higher and the bars run up and down. I have one of those on my 600 and it is plenty strong.

Oh, Ye of the intuitively obvious. If you have a boneyard within 100 miles, visit it. You should find a variety of more than stout bumpers for your tractor. If you are going to modify it anyway, no sense in spending hard earned cash on a brand new bumper.
Jerry, the volunteered against my will Dell responder. ROFLMAO :-)
