ORC install maint ?s

I bought an ORC for my 8N. It came with a spring pin, grease fitting, and instructions in a small bag. The ORC itself has a grease fitting installed and 180 degrees opposite has a set screw plug.

The instructions say to remove plug, tap in spring pin so as not to extend beyond drive sleeve on either side, check for free rotation. Then they say, install grease fitting, grease, remove fitting, reinstall plug, and save fitting for use in future lubrication.

My questions..

1 What does the other fitting do? Are two needed?

2 Why not leave the fitting installed instead of reinstalling the plug?

The directions state that the ORC "relube frequency will depend on the amount of overrunning. Grease several times daily if overrunning is frequent. Retain Fitting for future relubrication of the ORC."

How do these directions square with actual experience?

Many thanks in advance.

Pops..... .it pleases this ol'safety preacher to learn of another ORC installation.

Sometimes, the instruction writer and the bag stuffer and the final assembler don't know what each other are doing. (grin)

1) you can leave both greese zerks in the ORC if'n you want to.

2) I grease when ever I think about it, once a spring? But then I only mow a couple of times a year for a couple of hours each time.

3) If'n you ever have to remove the ORC, you'll be glad to have 2 holes 180 deg apart to drive out the spring roll pin.

Dell,

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like common sense rules in this case. I took the time to buy a spare spring roll pin just in case...

I'd thought about buying an ORC for a number of years, but never got around to it untill reading your posts. My wife thanks you! ;)
