the governor moves back and forth when I throttle up and down and it fights back when I move the arm manually. the balls are round the clearence is .223 there are no grooves inside the race and no slop in the arms on and in the boss and shaft hole. spring has slight tension at rest but when I need it to give me full throttle it doesn't move far enough to open the throttle plate enough to give me full power.
I'm stumped!! any ideas???

First you must have the linkage set so that with the tractor shut off and the throttle lever partially open (1/2 to 2/3) the butterfly on the carburator should be as wide open as it will go. If you are not getting this it will never keep the RPMs up when you load it.

I don't think I'm getting anywhere near that . I'll look and see what I can bend to get it.
IT seems to me that the rod might be to short as is but it worked great up until early this spring when I was plowing snow

with the tach I set the max rpms at 2200 and when I'm riding it doesn't get over 1400.
Which linkage can I adjust? I've all but removed the gov. stop screw
Mine are solid rods with spring loaded sockets on the end.
thanks for any and all help

No, that's no good.

Thanks for the reply. I was just curious; you've already thought of everything I could have.

The 8N throttle shaft linkage has a threaded end; not so on the 9N/2N. Bend it to adjust.

You do know that you can adjust the linkage, right?

Do you have a dwell tach or other device you could check RPMs with?
