I remember seeing on here some time ago, I think, about someone with a stuck clutch on an 8N. I have just bought a NAA with that problem from sitting in barn for two years. Seems someone on here knew an easy fix by spraying something up something by the clutch assembly. Might be wrong! ANY ideas how to try to fix it cheap?
Thanks to all that respond.

If you are feeling a bit brave, try this. Put hte tractor in high gear & hitch it up via chain to your pickup truck. Have a volunteer give you a pull with the tractor ignition key on. When tractor starts, stomp down on clutch & then both brake pedals. Not saying this will work for all, but it has worked for me in the past. YMMV (Your Milage May Vary!).

I just finished fixing my stuck clutch. I tried all the "easy" stuff like spraying brake cleaner (two cans), carb cleaner (two cans), rocking it back and fourth with the clutch tied down. I did not have the room to get it going and out of the shop in gear so I did not try the tree bumping trick. In the end I split ol" Fudd apart. I am glad I didn"t try the tree trick. My "new" clutch disc was really stuck to the flywheel. I had to work it loose to get it free. It probably would have climbed a tree. Anyway, long story longer, it only burnt up a pleasant Saturday to split the beast, pull it about a foot apart, remove the pressure plate, buff everything up, clean, and shove it back togehter. I bungee the pedal down now every time I park it.

I enjoyed reading that link.

Especially the part about the salamander heater.

There are hundreds of ways to "get by" without just fixing the real problem.

When you get right down to the "nitty gritty".

Putting your nose to the grindstone, and actually fixing the problem will in the end save you 10 times over, as opposed to just trying to treat the symptoms, and get by for a week.

That goes for your life too!!!

I apologize in advance, if anyone finds this post offensive in any way.

Dunk, did you know a brand new clutch will stick if you let the tractor sit long enough?? Yep they will I have an 8N that gets used very little and it has a newer clutch in it and if I don't block the pedal down when not useing it the clutch will stick. So some times the split it open to fix it isn't the fix after all. Just for your info by the way

Theres a number of things that can be done. Remove the starter and spray brake cleaner into the clutch area. Ifyou do that make sure you block the pedal down or it will not work as well. Another way is to block the pedal down for a week or so which may or may not work. Last way but works about 75% of the time is to start it in gear and in a wide open area drive it around keeping the pedel down. The higher the gear the better but also easier to get in trouble if you get going to fast. Just make sure if you drive it around you have a lot of room and nothing to run over or hit because it will be hard to stop if you have to. Then after you get it freed up always block the pedal down so its not as likely the happen again

Brake cleaner seems to be the consensus.

Now for my opinion.

Break her in half and fix her.

several things to try, first and easiest is to block or tie the clutch pedel down and let sit a few days, you might also jack up 1 side of the rear end and put the tractor in 4th gear and rock the raised wheel back and forth by hand,to try and break the clutch loose, if it runs, and if you got lots of room and only if you gots the room, hang a brushog with orc or a disc gang ect, [ something that will make the tractor work,] and run it for awhile , you might also try spraying it with brakeclean too, that wont leave a oily residue on the clutch

Eric & Dunk, Thanks for the advise! I had thought about putting my two bottom plow on it and see if she would pop free. My luck it will be off to the garage and $$$$$$$$ out of my pocket! LOL! She was working fine when the man I purchased it from put it in storage two years ago. I'm hoping it's minor and the plow will loosen her. Thanks again!

She may just loosen right up if you will work her hard for a couple of weeks.

Don't ever doubt that.

It still takes a brave man to run one that don't stop when you push in the clutch.

And you have to be able to jeark it out of gear, cut the switch off.
